Video Summary- Tips On What To Wear To A Funeral

Selecting what to wear to a sensitive occasion like a funeral is something to be considered. A funeral is an important, and usually somber occasion, and the manner in which you dress should reflect that. In this video, eFuneral co-founder Mike Belsito offers some tips on how to dress for a funeral.

Many assume that they need to wear black when they are going to a funeral service. This may have been the case in the past, but modern times are a little more flexible. Black or other dark colors often take away a lot of the uncertainty surrounding dress at a funeral, and you may find it the most comfortable route to go. However, just because it is black or dark does not mean that it is appropriate. Loud patterns can easily make even dark clothes a distraction during a funeral service.

Dress at a funeral should be conservative. The key is to avoid being the center of attention. This means avoiding patterns that stand out and flashy colors can distract from the somber mood and draw attention to you when the focus should be on those that are grieving. It is not necessary to wear black, but subdued colors are recommended. A good aid in clothing selection is to think about what you would wear to a job interview. If you have to think very hard about whether or not your dress is appropriate you should probably pick something else.

Most importantly, don’t sweat it too much. If you feel comfortable with the appropriateness of your dress than it is probably fine. Sometimes we have a tendency to over-think social situations, when most of us have a pretty good fashion compass. Your dress should be a consideration, but your main concern should be the comfort of the family that is grieving. For more funeral resources and articles visit
