Casket Rental

Casket rentals can help funeral planners save money while still giving them the opportunity to enjoy a more expensive casket.

If you’re looking to save money, ask your funeral home about renting a casket

Caskets are among the most expensive items involved in a funeral service: On average, funeral planners pay $2,300 for a casket. But if a casket of that amount is simply out of your budget, you have another option – a casket rental.

Why rent a casket?

Let’s say, just for the viewing, you want to use a mahogany or bronze casket that typically sells for $8,000. If you can’t afford to pay that much, or if you just want the casket for the viewing and would prefer a simple pine casket for the burial or are planning a cremation following the viewing, ask the funeral director about renting the casket.

What is a “casket rental?”

Most funeral homes have specified “rental caskets” with a removable interior. To give the appearance of the body laying inside the casket, the body is placed within a wooden box which is then placed inside the rental casket. In this way, the body never touches the rental casket so the funeral home can reuse it as needed.
